Oh Oh, I’ve been bad again and not updating the Blog

October 30, 2013

Sorry everyone!!  Yes, we’ve been in Delray Beach since last week.  And it’s great being here, we have an apartment on the beach which makes life so much better than Burlington Ontario that we are ecstatic.  Runs on the beach, cooking in our kitchen–we ate out today at lunch for the first time.  BUT:

Sasha lost in quallies here.  Played terribly.  Then got blisters on his feet etc.  We had Sasha’s mother here for the weekend.  Now we are back on track!  Good practice today.  More tomorrow, then Atlanta on Friday.  As Sasha says, “we’ve hit the reset button and we’re ready”

Good news–lots of school done, lots of core work out, lots of runs on the beach AND probably most good news–new tennis bags.  Sasha’s was falling apart.  I asked Wilson for a favor–they came through.  She even sent me one since I hated my Babolat bag so badly (note to Babolat, please keep the pockets consistent from one bag design to another).  So my Babolat sponsorship in danger, I’m using a very well designed Wilson bag!!  Maybe a Wilson racquet is next for me.  Haha!!

Again, sorry for the delay in posting.  I promise to be better!!!

By the way, based on his wins in Canada, Sasha moved up some 250 spots to 1430ish in the world for ITF Juniors.  Not bad.  Will definitely crack the top 1000 by end of year.  (Don’t tell anyone, but I’m hoping for better than that!!)ImageImageImage

Burlington, Ontario

October 23, 2013

Sorry everyone for my tardy posting.  I wrote an entry and forgot to post it.  Here we are outside Toronto.  Up until now we have been at nice clubs and had great living accommodations.  Well, that came to an abrupt end when we got here.  Awful hotel and a club to match.  There is only one good thing about either–they are across the street from each other.  Sasha is in the main draw here and it is a 64 Draw.  He won yesterday 4-3 retired.  The guy hurt his thumb/wrist.  Today Sasha played very well and won 6-4, 6-2.  He plays the 2 seed tomorrow in the round of 16.  The links to the draw and order of play is below.  Note the order of play is updated through the day here so you can see scores.

Lost today in the Quarters

October 17, 2013

Tough match today.  Score doesn’t look close, but was a very close match.

Kyryll had a good game plan to use anything he could to keep Sasha from being inside the baseline.  Sasha didn’t capitalize on his chances, which were fewer and less obvious.

Here is the updated draw–2 Americans, 2 Canadians

Rest, school, laundry, gym tomorrow.  We leave here Friday morning early for Toronto.

Into the Quarters in Victoria ITF

October 15, 2013

Sasha played great tennis today to take the 2 seed down 6-4 6-3.  He served smart and huge, played great off the ground and was virtually 100% at the net.  We’re waiting to go on for doubles now.  Matches are late.  Great win today.  Best tennis Sasha has played since we’ve been on this ITF odyssey!!!  More later after doubles.

First Win in Main Draw of ITF

October 15, 2013

Sasha had his first win in the Main Draw of an ITF today.  Played very well, won 6-1, 6-1.  As of next week he will have a world ranking.  I was very happy with how he played, served great!!  Last couple of weeks have been tough but since he had to qualify here, he worked his way through each match playing better and better.  Tomorrow, he plays the 2 seed.  On at 8:30am.  Bad news, it’s early, good news, we know what our routine will be warming up etc.  I’ll post a draw update as soon as its available.

Here are a few pictures from the day.  The last one shows my meager kitchen here at the hotel.  Despite this we had a nice “turkey” dinner here tonight in honor of Canadian Thanksgiving.

Victoria, BC Canada

October 14, 2013

Well here we are in Canada.  Was quite a long trip getting here from Tulsa.  We drove to Oklahoma City, flew to LA, then to San Francisco, then to Victoria.  We are actually staying in a place called Sidney which is quite beautiful.  Our hotel is on the waterfront and right near restaurants.

Sasha was the top seed in Qualifying.  One more spot and he would have been in the main draw, but worked out fine.  He played two qualifying matches and got some wins in and now main draw starts tomorrow.  This is Canadian Thanksgiving, so everyone was having their Turkey, mashed potatoes etc.

We got to practice at the club where the tournament is being played.  Sasha is hitting great.  Very nice place, great gym, huge pools.  Community center type place.  They certainly support that type of thing here.

Here is the draw and order of play for tomorrow:
